Joint Chemical Industry Associations to craft the Philippine Chemical Masterplan

For the first time, leading chemical industry associations in the Philippines namely,

• Samahan sa Pilipinas ng mga Industriyang Kimika (SPIK)
• Association of Petrochemical Manufacturers of the Philippines (APMP)
• Philippine Plastic Industry Association (PPIA)
• Philippine Association of Paint Manufacturers (PAPM)
• Progressive Association of Printing Ink Manufacturers (PAPiM)
• Philippine Oleochemical Manufacturers Association (POMA)

conducted a joint general membership meeting last March 27, 2012 held in the Dusit Thani Hotel, Makati. These six industry associations represent over 475 chemical related entities in operating in the Philippines. In this historic joint general membership meeting the leaders of the associations provided an update for their respective industries, and signed a memorandum of agreement to work together to create the Philippine Chemical Masterplan. DTI Undersecretary Cristino Panlilio inducted the new directors of SPIK, while new SPIK President inducted the new members of SPIK.

SPIK with the Foreign Trade Service Corp

Last March 1, 2012, SPIK had an opportunity to provide the Foreign Trade Service Corp an overview of the rapidly growing Philippine chemical industry.  SPIK President Bobby Batungbacal and Vice President for External Affairs Dean Lao Jr. addressed Philippine commercial officers stationed in the US, Europe and Asia Pacific. Discuss in the presentation were chemical exports of the Philippines which increased 20% in 2011, investment opportunities as well as the ongoing work on the Philippine Chemical Masterplan.

Global Product Stewardship Training Workshop

SPIK conducted a Global Product Strategy (GPS) and Product Stewardship (PS) Training Workshop. The theme of the workshop is “Creating Value through Global Product Strategy”. The training aims to revisit the various management initiatives which the industry in the region has taken to promote the Product Stewardship, one of the codes of Responsible Care ®, in the management of chemicals, from manufacturing to disposal, ensuring sustainable development. This workshop was held last February 23- 24, 2012 at Dusit Thani Hotel , Makati City.

The event was attended by fifty five (55) participants from twenty two (22) SPIK member companies; Atlantic Coatings, Bayer Crop Science, Brenntag Ingredients, Inc., United Coconut Chemical, Inc., D & L Indus tries, Inc., DuPont, Dow Chemical Pacific Limited, JG Summit Petrochemical , Corp., Mabuhay Vinyl Corporation, Metro Industries, Inc., Nalco Philippines Inc., Pacific Paint (Boysen) Phils. Inc., Philippines Resins Indus tries, Inc., Rezcoat Inc., RI Chemical Corp., S. C. Johnson and Son , Inc., Suntra International Trading Co., Ltd., TNC Chemicals Phils., Inc., Transworld Trading Co., Inc., Unilox Indus trial Corp., Vemaval , Inc., and Air Liquide Phils., Inc., government authori ty representative and Non– SPIK members.

This workshop is the firs t on GPS that it intends to show how GPS can be carried out alongside with our Responsible Care program and activities. This Workshop is sponsored by International Council of Chemical Associations (ICCA)  and the Japan Chemical Industry Association (JCIA) all with the aim of driving the important message of GPS and Product Stewardship and to ensure a successful workshop in the Philippines.
